A day in the life of living in an informal settlement

Last night I had to study under a lampost. My grandpa had cancer it was terrible. When I realised that he had cancer I was devastated. I always play with my best friend named Kahansie we love to play French and English. I always walk to school and back it’s 5 kilometers.  When I arrived at school there were only 10 notebooks and 60 in a class. Our teaches name was Mrs Khans. Some of the houses around where I live are fire proof. I live in Khayelitsha the people are very kind. I stopped going to school in grade 5 because we moved to a new house far away so I couldn’t go to school. There was also no transport . I had to walk to school every day on my own.

We don’t have a lot of money so we don’t have a lot of food. We have a vegetable patch outside our house so we get our food from there. We go and get our haircut at our local hairdresser he is good. I have dreadlocks in my hair with beads for decoration. I would like a proper roof on my house and get transport so I can go to school. My mom and dad's  job is they sell vegetables on the side of the road. I hope my grandpa gets better so I can go and draw with him. I really also want a toilet that flushes.

  1. Some good insight shown, but try and let your writing and ideas flow and don't jump from idea to idea.
